The new Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Villas and Bungalows hearkens back to the resort's past, according to Disney. Original concepts for the deluxe-level Polynesian called for a prominent tower at the resort.
The Disney Vacation Club property at Disney World Resort is expected to open this December. The tower will be 10 stories with views of the Seven Seas Lagoon from many of its rooms, which will sleep between two and nine guests. There will be a variety of room types, including duo studios, one- and two-bedroom villas and two-bedroom penthouse villas -- a new room category.
Disney said the tower itself "brings to life the spirit of Polynesia."
Guests arriving at Island Tower will be greeted by custom designs on its exterior, like an artistic interpretation of a manta ray. The lobby's ceiling will be adorned with an art installation made of panels portraying Polynesian islands wildlife.

"Each animal holds a strong connection to the islands and symbolizes values important to Polynesians," Disney said.
More than a dozen artists collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineering to create artwork for the property, including sculptures crafted out of recycled fishing nets and preserved moss walls. Disney said each piece will be "inspired by the spirit of conservation and embody the rich cultures of Polynesia."
Island Tower reservations will open to all guests on June 6. Disney Vacation Club members and Walt Disney World annual passholders will get a head start when reservations open for them on June 4 and 5, respectively.
