Accommodations range from deluxe (in Quito and Guayaquil and including a few restored country haciendas) to very basic. A midrange level of accommodations can be found in the hosterias (nice, quaint inns). To minimize hassles, book as upscale a place as your budget will allow. In general, accommodations are cheap by North American or European standards. Every amenity will be appreciated after an exhausting day of touring, especially in the smaller towns.
