Although Conakry boasts several upscale hotels, in other towns, upcountry lodging is minimal. Electricity is a serious problem in Guinea; be sure to make sure the hotel you've chosen has a generator if you require power. If at all possible, get a written guarantee of your reservation—in French, preferably—as overbooking is a problem at the better hotels.
